Pinwheels For Peace
Lake Tract School
Students completed pinwheels in Mrs. Evan's Art class, and then "planted" them outside with their 2nd Grade Buddies in the flower beds to signify peace.

I am attaching some pages that show a project done by my sixth grade class and their buddies, Rose Nicotra-Kinsella's 2nd grade class.
The purpose of the activity was to show that verbal bullying, such as using unkind, mean words, leave a lasting effect on a person, even after apologies are made.
The basic steps of the project were:
1. Trace your buddy and then cut out paper people and give them faces
2. Half the "people" were then treated kindly, and stayed looking 'smooth' and 'uncrumpled'
3. The other half of the 'people' were treated badly - they were 'crumpled' and spoken to meanly...
4. Apologies were made to the 'crumpled' people as they were 'smoothed' back out
5. The children discussed the idea that no matter how many apologies were made, the wrinkles and 'crumple marks' would never go completely away...even if the face was smiling, the 'people' could still feel bad, or be 'crumpled' inside
The activity went very well, and the picts are pretty cute, too!
Feel free to use them!
